Results, validity, and retakes
Plan around result release and check the evidence rule for your route. The general SELT rule is two years, but GOV.UK family-visa guidance allows some results from a previous successful application to be reused.

Validity and family-route reuseGOV.UK's general SELT rule requires a result awarded in the 2 years before application. Family-visa guidance says you may not need to prove English again after a successful application; A2 or higher can be reused for an extension, and B1 or higher can be reused for settlement, if the qualification is still approved and has not been withdrawn.
Reference for the applicationEnter the provider reference: IELTS UKVI number, Trinity UER, LanguageCert Candidate URN, Pearson SELT URN, or PSI URN. GOV.UK says results are checked online, so no test-result document is submitted.
IELTS retakesAfter a Fail, there is no restriction on retaking IELTS Life Skills; book another full sitting and pay the applicable fee. After a Pass, you cannot retake Life Skills at the same level for 2 years.IELTS One Skill Retake is not a partial retake for this combined Life Skills test. Transfer and cancellation terms vary by location.
