Before you buy the test

Confirm acceptance first. A school may accept iTEP Academic-Plus but refuse an at-home score, require a specific overall score, or set minimum section scores.

1. Acceptance

Ask about the exact test version

Confirm the school accepts iTEP Academic-Plus taken through iTEP Virtual Testing. Academic-Core covers only Grammar, Listening, and Reading, so do not buy Core for admissions unless the school says Core is enough.

2. Score target

Check the overall and section requirements

Use the institution's published requirement. iTEP's equivalency chart is a reference only. It does not replace the school's own admission rule.

3. Timing

Leave at least five business days

Scores normally arrive within 24 hours, but technical issues or a security review can delay release. iTEP advises taking the test at least five business days before you need the score.

4. Purchase

Know what the direct price includes

The listed bundle is US$141 before any temporary promotion: US$129 for the exam plus a required US$12 proctoring and delivery fee. Purchases are nonrefundable. Instructions and the Test ID arrive within 24 hours after payment is processed; the exam is then available on demand.

A test credential remains valid for 12 months after purchase. Your result remains valid for two years from the test date.

At-home setup and test rules

Room and conduct rules

Photo IDYour ID must show your photograph, full name, and country or state. Official examples are a passport, driver's licence, or government ID.
Face, mouth, and monitoringKeep your whole face and mouth visible, and look directly at the camera during Speaking. Rosalyn uses video and audio monitoring; live proctors may send notices, and flagged events receive human review.
One personNo other person may be seen or heard in the room.
No outside helpDo not use translators, dictionaries, books, paper resources, voice assistants, or another device.
Clear testing areaSecure phones, watches, tablets, other computers, reference materials, food, drink, and other personal effects away from the test area unless iTEP has approved an exception.
NotesOfficial rules allow notes only during the preparation portions of Listening and Speaking. Do not type notes at other times, and do not read a prepared Speaking answer word for word.
SoftwareClose other applications. Remove or disable screen-recording extensions and software. The proctoring browser also checks for virtual machines and external monitors.
Security reviewA rule violation can invalidate the score. The official rules state that cheating-related invalidation can block further iTEP testing for two years.
Do not start after a failed technical check. Fix the problem first, or contact iTEP support.

Scoring and official IELTS reference

iTEP reports an overall score from 0.0 to 6.0, in 0.1 steps, plus separate skill scores. Grammar, Listening, and Reading are scored automatically. Trained graders score Writing and Speaking on a standard rubric. Each skill counts equally in the overall score.
